Nex-Tech Joins CCK in Meetings with Governor Kelly and Legislators

The Communications Coalition of Kansas (CCK) is an organization of Rural Local Exchange Carriers (RLECs) that carry broadband through hundreds of miles, across dozens of communities, as well as to agricultural, educational, governmental, and healthcare institutions. In short, CCK members form the backbone of high-speed connectivity for the most rural economies of Kansas. CCK members serve 50% of the state’s geographic area, 104 out of the state’s 105 counties, and about 15% of households. Nex-Tech is a member of the CCK. Every year, we join other CCK members to visit the Kansas State Capitol in Topeka and engage with legislators.

This year, I was privileged to join leaders of other CCK member companies across rural Kansas to advocate. It was fun moving from office to office and room to room sharing our story with legislators. The CCK group also had the opportunity to interact with Governor Laura Kelly. I found it worthwhile observing how laws and policies can affect Nex-Tech; and knowing that we have an opportunity to improve communications services for Kansans when we educate decision-makers on the facts. Walking down those hallways and listening through conversations definitely gave me perspective on the importance of what Nex-Tech does.

A major highlight of the event was the testimony of the CCK before the House and Senate Utilities Committee. The presentation was made by Catherine Moyer, CEO of Pioneer Communications, Ulysses KS.
