Foundation for Rural Service Announces 2023 Scholarship Recipients

Lenora, Kan, 6-19-2023 — Nex-Tech is proud to announce the recipients of the Nex-Tech “Break the Rules” Scholarship. “Unlike most scholarship programs, this one allows high school seniors to send us any type of entry that depicts what they are most passionate about and how that has led to their chosen career path,” stated Jacque Beckman, Nex-Tech’s Youth Services/Training Manager. “We have received essays, YouTube videos and PowerPoint presentations. Our area students are very talented, and this allows them a non-traditional way to showcase their strengths and passions.”

Jimmy Todd, CEO/General Manager, added that, “We received many creative and well-thought-out scholarship entries. We appreciate the effort and the passion behind each submission. The Nex-Tech Team wishes every student success as they embark on their future education and career path.”

The following ten students will each receive a $1,000 award for excellence in showcasing their passion and describing how it led to their chosen career.

Zoie Beckman is the daughter of Lonnie and Jacque Beckman of Lenora, and a graduate of Hill City High School. She will attend Washburn University majoring in Kinesiology/Pre-Physical Therapy with a minor in Leadership. Her career goal is to become a physical therapist.

Brooke Befort is the daughter of Brian and Angela Befort of Osborne, and a graduate of Osborne High School. She will attend Fort Hays State University majoring in Health and Human Performance/Pre-Physical Therapy, with a career goal to become a physical therapist.

Kaitlyn Countryman is the daughter of Toby and Monica Countryman, and a graduate of Quinter High School. She will study Elementary Education with a minor in Music and Leadership at Kansas State University as she pursues her goal to become an elementary school teacher.

Haley Cranwell is the daughter of Clyde and Kristi Cranwell of Hays, and a graduate of Ellis High School. She will attend North Central Kansas Technical College majoring in Automotive Technology, as well as Fort Hays State University majoring in Finance.

Hannah Eikenberry is the daughter of Colton and Julie Eikenberry of Hays, and a graduate of Hays High School. She will attend Kansas State University to study Psychology, with a career goal to become a psychologist.

Dylan Hawks is the daughter of Jeremy and Renee Hawks of Norton, and a graduate of Norton Community High School. She will study Fine Arts and Film Animation at Wichita State University, with a career goal to become an animator for games, film, and advertisements.

Cappi Hoeting is the daughter of B.J. and Jean Ann Hoeting of Stockton, and a graduate of Stockton High School. She will attend Kansas State University majoring in Agricultural Communications and Journalism with a minor in Marketing. Her goal is to work in Marketing/Social Media Management in the agricultural industry.

Kaylee Richmeier is the daughter of Aaron and Rebecca Richmeier of Hill City, and a graduate of Hill City High School. She will attend North Central Kansas Technical College majoring in Practical Nursing, with a goal to continue her education and earn her BSN to become a traveling nurse.

Sydni Rust is the daughter of Kirby and Michell Rust of Kensington, and a graduate of Thunder Ridge High School. She plans to major in Communications Science Disorders at Kansas State University, with a career goal of becoming a speech-language pathologist.

Cole Schlautman is the son of Joe and Heidi Schlautman of Hays, and a graduate of Hays High School. He will attend Kansas State University to major in Industrial Engineering, with a goal of opening his own engineering firm.

Additionally, the following five students will each receive a $500 award for excellence in showcasing their passion and describing how it led to their chosen career.

Julianna Baalmann is the daughter of Justin and Michele Baalmann of Hays, and a graduate of Thomas More Prep Marian High School. She will attend Fort Hays State University majoring in Elementary Education, with a goal of becoming an elementary school teacher.

Michael Garvert is the son of John and Michele Garvert of Plainville, and a graduate of Plainville High School. He will attend Fort Hays State University majoring in Health and Human Performance/pre-Physical Therapy and play in the band. His goal is to become a physical therapist.

Diego Muller is the son of Kai and Angela Muller of Russell, and a graduate of Hays High School. He will attend the University of the Incarnate Word majoring in Psychology and Kinesiology and play soccer. His goal is to become a sports psychologist.

Jenna Pierson is the daughter of Jason and Renai Pierson of Collyer, and a graduate of Quinter High School. She plans to major in Graphic Design at Fort Hays State University, with a goal to pursue a creative career as a graphic designer.

Avery Stark is the son of Jeremiah and Alisha Stark of Norton, and a graduate of Norton Community High School. He will attend Fort Hays State University to major in Technology Studies in the department of Applied Technology.
