For many years, we have taken steps to support the training and mentoring of young people who are entering the broadband and technology industry. We have done this through internships, sponsorships, scholarships, and lots more. One of our most unique initiatives is our Technology Education Sponsorship which we do by partnering with a regional tertiary institution, Fort Hays Tech North Central, formerly North Central Kansas Technical College (NCK Tech).

What does our partnership with FHTECH entail?
Nex-Tech accepts applications from students who would like to enter into a broadband and technology career and have secured admission to Fort Hays Tech North Central to study Telecommunications and Network TechnologyInformation Technology, or Heavy Equipment Operation. The student will first have to apply with Fort Hays Tech North Central for acceptance into one of the qualified programs and thereafter complete our sponsorship program application. Student applications are reviewed, and interviews are conducted.  If the student is selected, then Nex-Tech will sponsor the cost of their education for up to two years at the college to obtain their diploma. After graduation, students will work with some of the best in the industry and gain valuable experience by working for Nex-Tech for at least three years.

What is covered by the sponsorship?
Nex-Tech will pay the tuition, approved tools, and the cost of books. There is also an option to provide a housing allowance.

Who is eligible and when can they apply?
Any student who has been admitted to one of the three eligible programs at FHTECH NC is eligible to apply for the sponsorship. Students can apply from now until March 1st, 2025. Please note that students do not have to wait for the acceptance letter before completing their Nex-Tech application. They should indicate on the application whether they have applied for or have been accepted into one of the eligible programs of study.

Typically, the application period is January and March every year. However, students should verify the application window with Nex-Tech or FHTECH NC each year.

How can students apply?
Students interested in the scholarship should first be admitted to study in one of the three eligible programs.   Then they can submit their application via this link (https://www.nex-tech.com/community/scholarships/tech-ed-sponsorship/).

Did you know that 100% of the first graduates of this sponsorship are currently employed by Nex-Tech?

How are the final awardees selected?
Prospective awardee students will be interviewed by a panel of Nex-Tech leaders on why they want the opportunity, and how the opportunity will benefit them and their career. Basically, we want to learn about the students and see if they would be the right fit.

What does a career in Telecommunications and Network Technology entail?
If you love to solve problems, fix things, and create solutions, this might be right for you. This is a fun, ever-busy, and rewarding path. You will be on course to help many families, businesses, and communities stay connected with the best technology out there. As a member of the Nex-Tech Team, you will work alongside amazing professionals, receive great mentoring from our lead technicians, help positively impact customers, learn hands-on skills, and apply your knowledge immediately. Broadband expansion projects are currently ongoing across the country and the demand for professionals to build and maintain networks is high. After graduation, professionals could earn more than $40,000 per year in a full-time position with great benefits.

We call on prospective high school graduates to take advantage of this opportunity at Fort Hays Tech North Central in Hays and set themselves up for a bright future. We also call on parents and guardians to avail their kids of this opportunity. Together we can continue to enhance the quality of life in rural Kansas.
