Nex-Tech in Partnership with Co-Bank Funds Life$kills Programs for High School Students in Northwest Kansas
Lenora, Kan, 5-24-2024 – Nex-Tech, in partnership with CoBank’s Sharing Success program, is proud to support NexGeneration Round Up for Youth by sponsoring all student fees for its Life$kills Program for the 2024-25 school year. This new funding is part of our ongoing commitment to the next generation across our service footprint. Speaking on the award, Nex-Generation’s Executive Director Kelli Hueneke said, “Life$kills is designed to help our school districts meet the financial literacy needs of their students. Our one-day workshop teaches various skills that allow students to prepare for the real world and become financially fit citizens.”
Life$kills engages high school students in a hands-on learning environment at our Young AmeriTowne of Kansas site in Lenora, KS, and helps them prepare to be financially fit for their future. Students are assigned a “role” with a monthly salary and given a budget sheet. Students use this budget sheet to evaluate income vs. expenses and needs vs. wants as they pay for daycare, groceries, student loans, utilities, and more. Later when they spin the “Life Happen$” wheel, they may spend more to replace a tire or cover an unexpected medical bill. While at Life$kills, students also engage in discussions following a presentation on community readiness and learn about resume writing and interviewing skills in a mini-workshop format. The Nex-Tech matching contribution to the Sharing Success donation from Co-Bank is $10,000. Co-Bank donated $10,000 and Nex-Tech matched it with $10,000 to make a total contribution of $20,000. All to go towards making the Life$skills program free to all High Schools in the 28 County Area of Northwest Kansas.
