Engineering Technician I – Osborne, Smith, Jewell, or Republic County

We are seeking a detail-oriented Engineering Technician I, to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to prepare, update, and maintain construction sheets, maps, cable records, and other plant records for outside plant facilities. Additionally, the role involves completing testing of new and old cable and fiber plant to ensure optimal performance.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepare construction sheets for new construction, moved roads, and line additions, including conducting cost-studies for proposed construction plans.
  • Update and revise construction sheets, maps, and cable records to reflect changes as they occur.
  • Inspect all aspects of contracted work under construction to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Splice both copper and fiber-optic cable for new construction and restoration projects and conduct testing upon completion.
  • Assist the Construction Supervisor in coordinating current service work orders.
  • Prepare cutover sheets for retiring old plant and deploying new plant into service.
  • Update subscriber information within plant records accurately.
  • Conduct inspections by climbing poles, ladders, and utilizing bucket trucks to check inventory and update records.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned by management and engage in regular reviews with supervisor, maintaining a positive attitude.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and CAD capabilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret computer reports and printouts.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments.
  • Capacity to work accurately under time constraints and deadlines.
  • Understanding of Company safety policies, RUS and NEC codes, and practices.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining testing, installation, and repair equipment.
  • Ability to interpret documents such as maps, staking sheets, and blueprints.
  • Possession of a valid Kansas driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of communications system operations and outside plant construction activities.
  • Skill in splicing copper and fiber optic cables and testing fiber optic cables using appropriate equipment.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent, with five years of experience in construction, engineering, or plant operations.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Compensation:

  • Starting at $24.70 per hour or more, based on experience.
